General Information: There are TWO semesters in the academic year, each consisting of FIFTEEN weeks. All tuition will commence during the week beginning September 12th 2011.
Timetabling: The timetable is compiled in early May, and students are informed of their times in early August. New and late applicants will be allocated times as vacancies arise, and will be dealt with on a first-come, first-served basis. Educational considerations take precedence in grouping the classes. Flexibility with regards to times is essential.
Regulations:
- All applications must be submitted with a non-refundable deposit; otherwise a place will not be reserved.
- All fees must be paid by the due dates. Students whose fees are unpaid will not be admitted to class, and the College cannot be responsible for these students.
- After August 31st, places will not be held unless full fees are paid. If fees are not paid, places will be re-allocated to new applicants.
- Teachers are not responsible for students outside their classroom time. Parents are asked to ensure that children (i.e. students under the age of 18) are not left unsupervised before class and are collected promptly after class.
- In the interest of the safety of all, students are required to conduct themselves in an orderly manner before, during, and after class.
Methods of Payment - N.B. Closing date for payment: 31st August 2011. All applications must be accompanied with a €50 non-refundable deposit. Deposits will be deducted from second semester fees.
The balance is to be paid by one of the following methods.
- Two instalments: First semester payment before 31th August 2011. Second semester payment (less deposit) before 9th December 2011.
- Direct Debit: This is paid in FIVE instalments: the first instalment must be paid directly to the office before 31st August 2011. The remaining four instalments are to be paid by Direct Debit over FOUR months, commencing in September 2011. Payment by Direct Debit is available to students who begin tuition in the first semester only.
Tuition: Lessons missed by students will not be made up. As a courtesy to the teacher, we ask that the College be notified before class time if a student is to be absent. Allocation of teachers or changes of teachers will be determined only by the approval of the Directors. It is the student's responsibility to make him/herself available for theory class if s/he wishes to attend such a class.
Formation & Continuance of Classes: The Board of the College reserves the right to refuse to open any class or course, the enrolment for which is, in its opinion, insufficient. All fees will be refunded in such an event. Please note that in regard to group instrumental classes, where the number of students per class alters post enrolment, fees and class lengths may change accordingly.
Injury to students: The Board, Directors, or teachers of the college cannot be held responsible for injury to any student caused by the student's own negligence or disregard of the school rules, or by such negligence or disregard on the part of any student or students.
Examinations: College exams are held in the May/June period at the Drinan Street centre. (Exams can also be undertaken before Christmas and Easter in alternative Examining Centres.) Examining Boards are the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Trinity College London, and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. All entries must be processed, with the correct fee, through the College. Entries are governed by the rules of the relevant examining boards. Absolutely no entries can be processed after the official closing dates. The College reserves the right of the teacher to withdraw a candidate from an exam if sufficient preparation has not been undertaken on behalf of the candidate. Accompanists must be booked and paid directly by the students before the examination date. All tuition will be suspended during the period when the summer exams are taking place.
